False gospels spoken by false prophets on behalf of true prophets
Christians need to make sure they believe on Christ alone, having the Holy Spirit teach them, and are not relying on a pastor for spiritual growth
Satan has been lying to us since the beginning, which is why Jesus called him the father of lies.
John 8:44 (King James Version)
44 Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.
As Christians, we know this, but it has become much more difficult to spot those lies because of technology. With the rise of generative artificial intelligence (AI), it is now much easier for the average person to fake the likeness of a person and create a video of them saying things that they would never say.
1 John 4:1 (King James Version)
1 Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world.
2 John 1:9 (King James Version)
9 Whosoever transgresseth, and abideth not in the doctrine of Christ, hath not God. He that abideth in the doctrine of Christ, he hath both the Father and the Son.
We must plant ourselves firmly on the Word of God to not be deceived by this world.
This technology is particularly dangerous because many Christians do not study God's Word for themselves or have a consistent real-life community of believers to turn to.
Instead of reading from a physical Bible, they read verses from an app on their phones, which can be hacked and the Word of God can be changed.
Instead of attending a live sermon, they can watch videos on social media, church websites, television, and even on the big screen at a church they attend.
The absense of a physical Bible and being isolated from a real life community of believers is a recipe for disaster, ranging from distraction in a believer to damnation in those who never get saved.
New Testament Warnings of False Gospels and How they Relate to AI
Galatians 1:6-9 (King James Version)
6 I marvel that ye are so soon removed from him that called you into the grace of Christ unto another gospel:
7 Which is not another; but there be some that trouble you, and would pervert the gospel of Christ.
8 But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed.
9 As we said before, so say I now again, if any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed.
Comment: Paul specifically says "for if we, or an angel from Heaven," meaning that someone could impersonate him or an angel from Heaven. If the content of their speech was different form the truth spoken in the Gospel, then those who speak such lies are to be accursed. Given that a person's likeness can be so easily faked today, we must not identify the person or pastor by their looks, but by their words.
2 Thessalonians 2:2-5 (King James Version)
2 That ye be not soon shaken in mind, or be troubled, neither by spirit, nor by word, nor by letter as from us, as that the day of Christ is at hand.
3 Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition;
4 Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God.
5 Remember ye not, that, when I was yet with you, I told you these things?
Comment: Paul also mentioned "nor by letter as from us" showing that people could send letters pretending to be from the apostle Paul or those working with him. If a person makes a fake video of someone preaching a false gospel, do not believe it even if it looks like someone you trust.
2 Corinthians 11:13-14 (King James Version)
13 For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into the apostles of Christ.
14 And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light.
Comment: This is one that could have had more poetic meaning at the time it was written, but now it can be taken literally. A person is able to transform themselves into someone else entirely and post it on social media. Some fakes may be easy to spot, but in the future it will be so good that most won't be able to distinguish deepfakes from reality.
New Testament Warnings of Lies About Faking Jesus's Character and the Second Coming of Christ
Comment: Each of these next examples are using the same methods as mentioned above with Paul and the apostles, but with deceiving others by faking the second coming of Christ. When Jesus comes back, you'll know. You won't need the media to tell you He came back.
Matthew 24:4-11 (King James Version)
4 And Jesus answered and said unto them, Take heed that no man deceive you.
5 For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many.
6 And ye shall hear of wars and rumours of wars: see that ye be not troubled: for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet.
7 For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers places.
8 All these are the beginning of sorrows.
9 Then shall they deliver you up to be afflicted, and shall kill you: and ye shall be hated of all nations for my name's sake.
10 And then shall many be offended, and shall betray one another, and shall hate one another.
11 And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many.
Matthew 24:23-35 (King James Version)
23 Then if any man shall say unto you, Lo, here is Christ, or there; believe it not.
24 For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect.
25 Behold, I have told you before.
26 Wherefore if they shall say unto you, Behold, he is in the desert; go not forth: behold, he is in the secret chambers; believe it not.
27 For as the lightning cometh out of the east, and shineth even unto the west; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.
28 For wheresoever the carcase is, there will the eagles be gathered together.
29 Immediately after the tribulation of those days shall the sun be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light, and the stars shall fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens shall be shaken:
30 And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory.
31 And he shall send his angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they shall gather together his elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other.
32 Now learn a parable of the fig tree; When his branch is yet tender, and putteth forth leaves, ye know that summer is nigh:
33 So likewise ye, when ye shall see all these things, know that it is near, even at the doors.
34 Verily I say unto you, This generation shall not pass, till all these things be fulfilled.
35 Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away.
2 Corinthians 11:1-4 (King James Version)
1 Would to God ye could bear with me a little in my folly: and indeed bear with me.
2 For I am jealous over you with godly jealousy: for I have espoused you to one husband, that I may present you as a chaste virgin to Christ.
3 But I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled Eve through his subtilty, so your minds should be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ.
4 For if he that cometh preacheth another Jesus, whom we have not preached, or if ye receive another spirit, which ye have not received, or another gospel, which ye have not accepted, ye might well bear with him.
How to Protect Yourself
Believe God's Word. Study God's Word. Memorize God's Word. Understand God's Word. Care about content over everything. Care about what the Bible says instead of new terms or personal anecdotes spoken from pulpits. Make sure you are being taught the character of God by the Spirit, and not attach yourself to any pastor or supposed spiritual authority.
John 5:24 (King James Version)
24 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.
1 John 2:27 (King James Version)
27 But the anointing which ye have received of him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you: but as the same anointing teacheth you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in him.
1 Corinthians 1:12-18 (King James Version)
12 Now this I say, that every one of you saith, I am of Paul; and I of Apollos; and I of Cephas; and I of Christ.
13 Is Christ divided? was Paul crucified for you? or were ye baptized in the name of Paul?
14 I thank God that I baptized none of you, but Crispus and Gaius;
15 Lest any should say that I had baptized in mine own name.
16 And I baptized also the household of Stephanas: besides, I know not whether I baptized any other.
17 For Christ sent me not to baptize, but to preach the gospel: not with wisdom of words, lest the cross of Christ should be made of none effect.
18 For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God.
Comment: Paul is pointing out the confusion amongst church members, seeing they value who baptized them rather than looking directly to Christ.
1 Timothy 2:3-6
3 For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour;
4 Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth.
5 For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus;
6 Who gave himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time.
Even if you have a saved pastor who loves the Lord, he will still sin and make mistakes. If you attach yourself to man, you're already in danger of being fooled by someone who could fake his likeness. Go directly to God and never fully trust anyone else.
